Are you still offering application reviews for students?
After much consideration, I am no longer offering application reviews. For the last three years (2018-2021) I have offered application reviews- a full run-down edit of one’s common application for internship, resume, and cover letter. Due to the high demand and time it took to thoughtfully complete those edits, I will no longer be offering this service moving into 2022.
I will, however, be offering this for in-person retreats in the summer. Stay tuned and follow me on Instagram, @thechildlifementor, for all the info!
I don’t live in Michigan. Can I still work with you?
Absolutely! Most of my students are long distance so we have our coffee and practice mock interviews over Zoom! Zoom is an easy-to-use video conference application (similar to Skype) that allows me to send an individualized link to each of my mentees. Simply click the link that I send you via email at the time of our meeting and we’ll finally meet face-to-face!
What exactly does mentoring entail?
For students, mentoring is strictly mock interview preparation. Whether you’re applying for practicums or internships and need to get the jitters out of the way, this is a great way to do so!
For practicing child life specialists, the mentoring is endless. For example- I can provide 1:1 coaching to help you grow in a number of areas (self-confidence in advocating for self and profession, avoiding burnout, maintaining proper boundaries, creatively engage staff for educational purposes and patients for normalization, and learn how to communicate with peers, supervisors, families, patients and more).
I also provide support for starting a program or adjusting a program (volunteer/practicum are my expertise) to encourage results for students to successfully and seamlessly move into the next step in their journey (practicum/internship/job).
Lastly, I provide sessions dedicated to helping Certified Child Life Specialists start something out of nothing. Whether it’s starting a new program at the hospital or building a program within the community from scratch, let’s work together to get you where you want to be!
What does interview prep consist of?
I have a list of about 20 questions for mock interviews for both practicum/internships that will help you become more confident in your abilities as a future child life specialist.
I have used these mock interview questions with my last four years of practicum students and all have come back to say how multiple questions that I gave them for practice were asked of them during interviews – they were so relieved at how much it helped them relax during their interviews and in turn, they now have internships or jobs themselves!
Do you help with job interview prep?
Yes! Choose either a basic 30-minute prep or advanced 60-minute prep to get those jitters out and see how well you can integrate what you’ve learned from internship into the real world with YOU in the driver’s seat. You’re so close to achieving your dream! Click here to book your interview session.
What if I don’t know what I need help with? I just feel absolutely lost and know I want to do better.
Shoot me an email at childlifewildlife@gmail.com. Know that you’re not alone and perhaps after a brief conversation via email, we can set up a 10-minute phone call to see if we’re a good match and if it’s a good next step for you to pursue mentoring/coaching with me.
